Winners of the FENS EJN Awards 2018 announced

The Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and EJN in partnership with the Wiley are pleased to announce the winners of the prestigious 2018 FENS EJN Award and FENS EJN Young Investigator Prize:

• FENS-EJN Award: Prof. Dr. Silvia Arber
• FENS-EJN Young Investigator Award: Dr. Lucia Prieto Godino and Dr. Sophie Steculorum

The awardees, chosen by an independent committee consisting of FENS leadership representatives and the EJN Editors in Chief, were selected in recognition of their outstanding scientific contributions to neuroscience.

The 8^th FENS EJN winner, Prof. Dr. Silvia Arber is one of the preeminent neuroscientists in the world studying motor circuit function. She is nominated for her excellent research on the mechanisms involved in function, assembly and plasticity of neuronal circuits controlling motor behaviour. A Swiss scientist by origin, Dr. Arber obtained her PhD at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel in 1995 where she now leads the research group on neuronal circuits controlling behaviour. Prof. Arber holds a joint position as Professor of Neurobiology/Cell Biology and Deputy Director at the Biozentrum, University of Basel and Senior Group Leader at the Friedrich Miescher Institute.

The 2018 FENS EJN Young Investigator Prize is shared between two exceptionally talented young researchers.

• Spanish scientist Dr. Lucia Prieto Godino is Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Integrative Genomics at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. She is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of TReND in Africa, a non-profit organisation to foster university research and education on the African continent. Dr. Prieto Godino studies the genetic basis of olfactory pathway evolution in Drosophila.
• Dr. Sophie Steculorum is Principal Investigator and Group Leader at the Group of Neurocircuit Wiring and Function at the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research in Cologne, Germany. Dr. Steculorum studies the pathophysiology of obesity and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and has helped uncover the developmental wiring of neurocircuits controlling energy and glucose homeostasis. 

FENS, Wiley and EJN congratulate the three awardees with their important achievements and on the selection for the 2018 FENS-EJN awards. 

The award ceremony will take place on 11 July 2018 during Fens Forum in Berlin (7-11 July 2018).
