March for Science: 22 April 2017

The main mission of the march is to publicly communicate science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity: the most effective way to protect science is to encourage the public to value and invest in it. And this can only happen through education, communication, and ties of mutual respect between scientists and their communities.

US cities will not be the only places where scientists will fill the streets on 22 April. Groups in eight European countries have announced “solidarity marches” in support of the US March for Science. Some of the manifestations will take place on the same day, whereas others have not been fixed yet. 

Marches have been planned in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Bigger countries may see several; in the United Kingdom, for instance, there are already plans to march in London, Edinburgh, and Manchester. In Norway, researchers plan to take to the streets in Oslo and Trondheim. 

The March for Science is an international movement, led by organizers distributed around the globe. This movement is taking place because of the simultaneous realization by thousands of people who value science in their lives that staying silent is no longer an option.
