FENS travel scholarships available to attend the Australian Course in Advanced Neuroscience (ACAN)

ACAN is an intensive three-week course held on beautiful North Stradbroke Island, Queensland, Australia that teaches the theory and practice of electrophysiological recording and optical imaging. ACAN is run by the Australasian Neuroscience Society (ANS) with support from the Finkel Foundation and the University of Queensland, Queensland Brain Institute. During the course, each participant will use state-of-the-art equipment to become proficient in patch-clamp recording, calcium imaging, optogenetics, and many other techniques.  Course equipment includes seven visualized patch clamp stations, in vivo recordings rigs and a dedicated 2-photon imaging / electrophysiology setup.

ACAN course attendance is competitive.

Applicants must first apply and be accepted into the ACAN course before being eligible to apply for a FENS travel scholarship.

The scholarship amount will be dependent on the number of FENS members accepted in the course, and will be up to 2.000 EUR per awarded FENS travel grant recipient.

FENS travel grants eligibility:

– The applicant must be actively enrolled in a PhD program or be an Early Career Researcher up to 7 years postdoc, and accepted by the ACAN Course Coordinator as a course participant;

– FENS membership is mandatory if applying for a FENS travel scholarship.

! FENS has no influence on the course acceptance, as this is the decision of the ACAN Course Coordinator.

The closing date for ACAN applications is 1 February 2019 (midnight according to Australian Eastern Standard time); applications must be made via the ACAN webpage.
