The message is signed on behalf of FENS by President Monica di Luca

FENS regrets the decision of Nikos Logothetis, a director at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tubingen, Germany, to stop his research on primates. However, we understand the terrible pressures from animal activist groups that pushed him to this decision.

This represents a great loss for the scientific community and for society at large, because the research carried out by Professor Logothetis had a powerful potential to impact innovation and human health.

We support the continuing commitment of the Max Planck Society to research using primates. We also appreciate the statements issued by the German Federal Ministry of Research and the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg in support of appropriate research using animals.
