- FENS EJN Lecture – Best Publication Award 2019 Winner
In collaboration with FENS and Wiley-Blackwell, EJN is proud to announce that the winner of the “Best Publication Award 2019” is Dr. Stephan Steidl, Associate Professor at Loyola University Chicago, Department of Psychology.
The lecture will be taking place on Wednesday 10 July at 16:15.
- Workshop: Transparency and training in animal research: how to move forward
This event will focus on the ongoing implementation of the European Directive on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. Speakers will present recent developments and opportunities in the domains of transparency and training, before discussing ways to move forward. Event organised by FENS-CARE.
The workshop will be taking place on Thursday 11 July at 13:10.
- Launch event: The ALBA Network
Recently founded by a group of leading international scientists, the ALBA Network aims to promote equality and diversity in brain sciences.
The ALBA Network is organising its first networking event at the FENS Regional Meeting in Belgrade. This will be the occasion to officially present the network and raise awareness on gender equality in neuroscience. More information about the event can be found on the ALBA Network website.
The launch event will take place on Thursday 11 July at 13:10.
- FENS EJN Publication Workshop: What happens to your paper when submitting to journal?
How is a paper handled once submitted to a journal? What happens to your paper? What is the ‘peer-review’ system? What do Editors do? What do Reviewers do? How to respond to Reviewers’ comments? What are the ethics of publishing (human subjects, animals, plagiarism)? What is expected in a good paper?
These questions will be addressed in this workshop co-chaired by Paul Bolam (Oxford University) co-EiC of the European Journal of Neuroscience & Juan Lerma (Instituto de Neurociencias at Alicante) EiC of Neuroscience.
This workshop will take place on Thursday 11 July at 14:10.
- History Symposium and History Corner
The FENS History of European Neuroscience Committee is organising a symposium which will consist of talks on the history of neuroscience followed by a discussion with the audience. Snacks and drinks will be provided. The Committee also organises a History Corner during the FRM 2019, located in the poster area for the entire duration of the conference. Selected posters from the Poster Competition will be displayed. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the history of neuroscience in Serbia, Romania and Turkey.
The symposium will take place on Friday 12 July at 13:10. The History Corner will be on display throughout the Forum.
- Open discussion between CHET and the FENS-Kavli Scholars
This joint event organised by the Committee of Higher Education and Training (CHET) and the FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence (FKNE) will provide an overview on the training opportunities and activities offered by FENS-CHET, followed by the opportunity for an open discussion on decisions and strategies related to training in your scientific career with FKNE members.
The discussion will be driven by questions from the audience, and can cover topics such as how to choose a PhD and postdoc lab, when to start the transition to scientific independence, which aspects of training had the greatest impact on the career of the panel members, and how to provide optimal training and mentorship to your lab members after reaching independence. The meeting will end with a light lunch, in an informal setting, and audience is encouraged to interact directly and ask questions to the presenters.
The open discussion will take place on Saturday 13 July at 13:10.
