FENS signs petition for the inclusion of research in the title of the new Commissioner for Youth and Innovation.

FENS strongly supports an open letter signed by leading European scientific organisations and prominent scientists calling on the European Commission to revise the new title of Commissioner Mariya Gabriel to include a reference to research.

The letter specifically opposes the omission and lack of reference to research and education in the title of the new Commissioner despite the fact that these are cornerstones for continued growth and prosperity in the European Union.

Supporting the statement, FENS encourages the new President of the European Commission, Ms Ursula von der Leyen, to change the official title to “Commissioner for Education, Research, Innovation and Youth”.
