The Committee on Animals in Research (CARE) advises FENS on the responsible use of animals in neuroscience research. It supports the development of resources on animals in research for FENS and promotes the public education in matters related to the use of animals in neuroscience. It monitors the development of European legislation on the use of animals in biomedical research, makes contributions to the efficient implementation of that Directive and provides expert advice on animal research issues. The Committee contrasts groups attempting to end use of animals in research, provides support to researcher under attack, responds to media when research is questioned.
The CARE and the “Advisory panel on Ethics in neuroscience, use of animals in scientific research, and communicating science” for the FENS-IBRO schools programme will promote and coordinate the critical discussion of the themes central to the use of animals in science at all courses of the Programme of the European Neuroscience Schools.
