EJN Special Issues

EJN published a special issue devoted to the “Functions of Sleep” (volume 29/9, pages 1739-1841). This special issue features nine review articles, written by leaders in the field and summarizing recent advances discussed during a satellite meeting of the 6th FENS Forum in Geneva.

How is sleep defined, where does it occur, how is it regulated, and what is it (possibly) good for? Both newcomers and specialists in the field will find up-to-date discussion of these issues. The articles cover the full spectrum of levels of analyses, ranging from molecular neuroscience to clinical sleep medicine.

EJN will be publishing several special issues in the years to come, focusing on controversial or emerging topics. We anticipate, in autumn 2009, a special issue on “Neural Basis of Timing and Anticipatory Behaviors” edited by Rae Silver and Michael Antle. For 2010, several special issues are in in the works, addressing a wide range of topics including functional and morphological plasticity at mammalian excitatory synapses, multisensory integration, and plasticity in neuroendocrine systems.

We hope that these and other special issues will assist the readers of EJN to become familiar with the rapid advances in neuroscience research.

Please contact the editorial Office of EJN (editorial.office@ejn.uk.com) if you wish to suggest themes for special issues or plan on organizing such an issue.
