Translational Neuroanatomy and Pathology

The goal of the course is to compare pathologic alterations found in experimental rodent models of neurodegenerative diseases with the pathology in the human brain. The course introduces into neuroanatomical techniques used to study the neuroanatomy and pathoanatomy of the human brain and provides an opportunity for hands-on training in the preparation of thick histological sections of the human brain. The pathological anatomy of the human spinal cord, brainstem, diencephalon and telencephalon in human neurodegenerative diseases is compared to findings in animal models. Participants are encouraged to bring histological sections from their own experiments and rodent models to the course for discussion (2 weeks notice required). The contents of this course are complementary to the course “Pathoanatomy of the Human Central Nervous System” listed below, which focuses on the staging of pathological alterations in the human brain.
