19th CATANIA INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL OF NEUROSCIENCE – CISSN (July 18-22, 2022)
Rare Diseases and Neurosciences Hotel Mercure Catania Excelsior, Piazza Giovanni Verga, 39, 95129 Catania, Italy A Rare Disease (RD) is defined as one that affects fewer than five per 10,000 persons in the European Union (EU) or fewer than 200,000 persons in the United States. Despite their relative rarity, about 7000 RDs have been identified worldwide, affecting approximately 7% of the general population (almost 30 million people in the EU). Rare Neurological Diseases (RNDs) constitute a significant proportion of RDs. Almost 80% of the RDs are caused by genetic anomalies, and over half of the cases affect the central and/or peripheral nervous system, either isolated or in combination with other systems, and may start in childhood. These are all good reasons why young generations of scientists and physicians should be aware of RNDs. The University of Catania organizes the XIX Catania International Summer School of Neuroscience, CISSN (July 18-22, 2022), focused on “Rare Diseases and Neurosciences”. The main aim of the CISSN 2022 is to bring together junior European fellows and expert investigators, working on different aspects of Rare Diseases in Neurosciences, from clinical perspectives to multiomics’ approaches, and to provide a forum for new directions and ideas in the Rare Neurogical Diseases field. The meeting will combine research lectures by leading neuroscientists from Europe and aims to encourage active discussions and exchange of information and ideas between seniors and young fellows. The event is organized in harmony with the purposes of the PNRR – PE12, Neuropharmacology and Neuroscience post-graduate training project. Welcome The Catania International Summer School of Neuroscience has always attracted attendees from Europe interested in the most appealing topics in Neuroscience and Neuropsychopharmacology. The CISSN 2022 is entitled “Rare Diseases and Neurosciences”. The CISSN is characterized by two 90-min sessions per day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), followed by a 60-min open discussion between the lecturer and the attendees. At the end of the day there will be a 60-min general discussion, involving attendees and all Lecturers.
Attendees The CISSN is addressed to PhD students, Post-Doctoral fellows, Residency Students in Genetics, Pharmacology, Psychiatry and Neurology, interested in Neurosciences.
