Evolving the Culture of Science and Training in Neuroscience to Meet a Changing World: A Virtual Workshop

Washington, DC, US

Attendance type(s): Virtual

Event Dates: 22 Feb 2021

Recent events, including the COVID-19 pandemic, have underscored the importance of science and of scientific training, but also the challenges and needed cultural shifts. This virtual workshop hosted by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders—the fifth and final in a series—will bring together the themes discussed in preceding workshops and consider how the culture of science and scientific training can become more inclusive, balanced, and adaptive to changing times. Topics to be discussed include redefining the metrics of success in science; the need for training that supports collaboration, interdisciplinary research, and team science; training for varied career paths; models of training and career structures that allow for commitments in one’s personal life and that support mental health and well-being.
