Researcher position in Behavioral Neuroscience

Position: Research Associate

Deadline: 15 January 2022

Contract Length: 5 years

City: Genova

Country: Italy

Institution: Italian Institute of Technology

Department: Neuromodulation of Cortical and Subcortical Circuits

Description:

Applications are invited to join our multidisciplinary and highly collaborative research team as Researcher (equivalent to Research Associate-Instructor).

The Lab applies a multiscale neuroscience approach to investigate how spatially and temporally diverse neuromodulatory signals converge in anatomically defined brain circuits to regulate aspects of motor and motivated behavior.

As an experienced behavioral neuroscientist, the successful applicant will develop and apply a variety of behavioral paradigms to investigate how the dynamics of synaptic neuromodulators (i.e., serotonin and noradrenaline) shape interaction between brain regions for valence processing and motor control, to implement adaptive, flexible decision-making, and support the learning of inflexible actions.

To this purpose, the candidate will combine behavioral investigation in murine animal models with in-vivo large-scale neuronal imaging as well as the latest optogenetic and chemogenetic approaches to deconstruct and manipulate neuronal circuits. According to interest, the applicant will supervise students and collaborate with other lab members and collaborators on other projects.

Documented expertise in experimental paradigms to investigate cognitive functions in murine models (instrumental learning and decision-making) is in an important prerequisite. Previous experience with neurophysiology, optogenetics and large-scale neuronal imaging, together with programming (Python or MATLAB) and signal processing expertise appropriate for the analysis of neuronal activity, will be a plus.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or related disciplines and have excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Applicants are expected to have an excellent publication record and to be highly independent.

Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens who permanently work abroad and meet specific requirements, may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years.
