Research Assistant (PhD student)

The position is offered for a period of 3 years. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (65 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 65 %).
The research group aims at identifying actin regulatory mechanisms in neurons and at elucidating their relevance for mammalian brain development and function. In a multidisciplinary approach, the group combines mouse genetics with biochemical and cell biological approaches as well as with modern microscopy (confocal microscopy, high-resolution microscopy, live cell imaging). Tasks:

  • functional characterization of a novel actin regulator in excitatory synapses
  • deciphering of synaptic interaction partners and regulatory mechanisms of this actin regulator

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • Master of Science or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry or life sciences
  • high motivation and strong background in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or neurobiology
  • beneficial are expertise in cutting-edge microscopy and mouse genetics as well as permit for animal experimental work
  • willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • good English oral and writing skills
