Employment Start Date: 15 November 2022
Contract Length: 2-3 years
City: Boca Raton
Country: United States
Institution: Florida Atlantic University
Department: Center for Complex Systems and Brain Sciences
Description:
Postdoctoral position available in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Vertes in the Center of Complex Systems and Brain Sciences at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Dr. Vertes is pioneer in the study of the midline thalamus, with a concentration on nucleus reuniens (RE).
NIH funded position for a minimum of two years to principally examine neuromodulatory effects on the midline thalamus/RE in cognition and affective behavior, with a focus on interactions of the orbitofrontal cortex with the midline thalamus and serotonergic actions on the limbic thalamus. Per recent work of the Vertes lab, the research will involve neuroanatomical, behavioral and electrophysiological analyses of structures of the midline thalamus, hippocampus and orbitofrontal cortex, to include unit/LFP recordings in behaving rats. A range of innovative methods will be employed including chemo/optogenetics and novel strains of Cre rats.
Seek a well-rounded neuroscientist with a background and experience in the disciplines listed above, with strong analytical and computational skills, and interest in and familiarity with the research of the Vertes lab (http://psy.fau.edu/people/vertes.php). Foremost, seeking a highly motivated individual committed to examining the role of the midline thalamic-hippocampal-PFC circuitry in learning and memory.
