PhD Student in Neurobiology of Birdsong

Position: Ph.D. Student

Deadline: 30 November 2022

City: Tübingen

Country: Germany

Institution: University of Tübingen

Department: Institute for Neurobiology

Description:

A Ph.D. position is available in the laboratory for Neurobiology of Vocal Communication (Jun-Prof. Dr. Lena Veit) at the Institute of Neurobiology, University of Tübingen.
https://uni-tuebingen.de/de/180099

The lab focuses on neural circuits involved in flexible sequencing of birdsong. Songbirds are an important animal model for studying learned vocalizations and motor control in general. We are combining neuroethological approaches with behavior training and in vivo electrophysiology to understand how finches learn and modify the sequence of their vocalizations.

The Institute of Neurobiology and the wider neuroscientific environment in Tübingen provide an ideal and stimulating environment for successful PhD students. The student will be able to have a structured education through the Graduate Training Center for Neuroscience, with the possibility to apply for the IMPRS Neural Mechanisms of Mental Function and Dysfunction (3-year program).
