An enthusiastic and skilled research fellow is sought to lead a project investigating brain circuits controlling hunger, obesity and type 2 diabetes. The research will employ the latest technology to probe this important area of research including optogenetics, chemogenetics, CRISPR/Cas9, in vivo calcium imaging (fibre photometry) and electrophysiology.  The post is well supported by technical staff and is approximately 2.5 years in duration.

The postdoctoral fellow will benefit from supervision from PIs Professor Lora Heisler and Dr Sergiy Sylantyev at the Rowett Institute, University of Aberdeen.  The overall aim of Professor Heisler’s and Dr Sylantyev’s research programmes is to investigate the basic neurophysiology of appetite, body weight, and insulin action by examining the neurocircuitry of neurotransmitter and neuropeptide systems with the aim of improving metabolic health.  The Rowett Institute has led nutrition and health research for more than a century and is a vibrant research and teaching environment.

The Research Fellow position is ideally suited to highly motivated post-doctoral fellows committed to a career of research, providing consistent and continuous high level intellectual and practical input to a dynamic research group. You will have a PhD in a relevant area with experience in obesity or diabetes research.  Candidates are required to be fluent in written and spoken English.
