Are you looking for a postdoc position in systems neuroscience? Join us at the JAIS lab at HI-MAG in Leipzig! Our research focuses on the dissection of neurocircuitries activated by palatable, energy-dense food.
Your responsibilities
The consumption of palatable, energy-dense food facilitates over-eating via central nervous system (CNS)-dependent mechanisms. The research of our group “Diet-Induced Metabolic Alterations” is focused on providing detailed insights into neurocircuitries activated by palatable, energy-dense food. We are using molecular and systems neuroscience approaches to define the anatomical distribution, molecular signature and neurocircuitry architecture of these neurons. We are looking for a postdoc who will be characterizing the role of specific neurons in the preoptic area of the hypothalamus in control of energy homeostasis in general and brown adipose tissue function in particular. The research will involve a diverse array of modern molecular systems neuroscience tools, mouse genetics and viral targeting approaches.
Your qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated and independent candidate with the following skillsets:
- PhD with research experience in a relevant field and a strong interest in CNS-dependent control of energy homeostasis
- Experience with animal models is mandatory
- Knowledge of stereotactic surgery in rodents is a plus
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
Provided that the prerequisites are fulfilled, a salary level up to E 13 is possible. Social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the federal public service (TVöD). The position is (initially) limited to 3 years, under certain circumstances an extension can be arranged.
To promote diversity, we welcome applications from talented people regardless of gender, cultural background, nationality, ethnicity, sexual identity, physical abilities, religion and age. Qualified applicants with physical disabilities will be given preference.
If you have obtained a university degree abroad, we require further documents from you regarding the recognition of the degree. Please request the recognition as early as possible.
