The Rajan lab is located in the Basic Sciences Division at Fred Hutch in Seattle. Grounded in a steadfast commitment to scientific excellence and bold creativity, the Basic Sciences Division encourages robust, ongoing collaboration among divisions, laboratories and clinical researchers. Research from this Division has yielded several landmark breakthroughs and scientific advances, including two Nobel Prize-winning discoveries that may inform new approaches to treatment. Notably, this Division values contributions from scientists who have completed their post-doctoral studies and join labs as staff scientists to continue contributing to discoveries, while working alongside the principal investigators to move science in new directions and mentor junior colleagues. Our post-doctoral fellows have a wealth of access to mentoring and other professional development opportunities to enable them to achieve their career goals.

Responsibilities

A post-doctoral position is available in the Rajan Lab at Fred Hutch. The Rajan Lab uses multidisciplinary approaches to study how adipocytes communicate to the brain. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate interested the following broad research area –innate immune molecules that intersect with metabolism–  the work will be carried out using the Drosophila model system, with subsequent validation in mouse and/or human cell systems. The candidate will carry out independent research projects, help to write grants and papers, and engage and guide technicians. They will participate in lab meetings/journal clubs, attend conferences as well as contribute to the smooth running of the lab. Post-doc fellows will be encouraged to build on the lab’s ideas independently and provided resources to develop new directions for their research projects.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Recent PhD degree
  • A strong foundation in molecular and cell biology
  • Background and familiarity with Drosophila genetics and/or mammalian cell culture desirable or any vertebrate model system desirable.
  • Candidates need to be highly motivated and well-organized individuals who think independently, but enjoy working as part of a dynamic and collaborative team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates with a very strong background in one of the following will be given preference: Drosophila or mouse genetics; behavior and integrative physiology cell-free systems and biochemical reconstitution; and/or mammalian cell culture.
  • Expertise in one of the following areas: energy metabolism, glial cell biology, autophagic processes or innate immunity.
