In the group of Dr. Melanie Küspert at the Institute of Biochemistry (Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg) we are looking for a PhD student for an expected Start: as soon as possible.

Our group is interested in development and disease processes in myelin-forming glia of the peripheral and central nervous system and the role of transcriptional regulators in this context. We analyze mechanisms of neural cell development, cell differentiation and pathogenesis by means of histological, molecular biology and biochemical methods techniques. We work with transgenic and knock out mouse models as well as with primary cell culture and organotypic cultures of neural tissue.

We are looking for interested and highly motivated applicants with an educational background in biochemistry/biology/chemistry/molecular medicine and with an excellent diploma or master degree. Experience in the neuroscience field and practical experience in standard molecular biology, cell culture and histology techniques are desired, willingness to perform animal research is required.

Required Qualification:

The PhD student will be integrated in the neuroscience research training group 2162 (RTG 2162), which focusses on neurodevelopment and neurodegenerative diseases and factors that bridge between both as vulnerability factors in later life. The applicant will have the opportunity to educate him-/herself on a professional as well as on a personal level and to network and work together with other PhD students and established neuroscientists within the RTG 2162.
