Postdoctoral researcher positions in Parkinson’s disease

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 15 September 2022

Contract Length: 2-4 years

City: Stockholm

Country: Sweden

Institution: Karolinska Institute

Department: MBB

Description:

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Professor Ernest Arenas http://ernestarenaslab.org/. The position will be placed in the Division of Molecular Neurobiology, a cluster of 8 research groups forming a dynamic and collaborative research environment within the MBB department, at the Karolinska Institute.

Our laboratory is located in the Karolinska Institute, one of the world’s leading medical universities and home of the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology. Karolinska Institutet conducts cutting edge medical research and holds the largest range of medical research and education in Sweden. Positions will be placed in Biomedicum, one of the largest and most modern research buildings in Northern Europe. Our lab offers an inclusive, interactive, multidisciplinary and international research work environment, where you can enjoy science and develop your career. You will be able to address fundamental questions and advance therapies to combat neurodegeneration.

We offer full time (100%) postdoctoral positions for 2-4 years, starting after the summer of 2022. The positions offer excellent training posibilities, outstanding research network and opportunities to interact and collaborate with other leading laboratories and researchers around the world.

Position 1: Single cell multiomics of Parkinson’s disease (Ref. 2-2914/2022):

Project supported by a prestigious collaborative grant from the Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP) Foundation.

The goal of the project is to identify the molecular phenotypes of cell types from different brain regions in human postmortem samples from PD patients as well as transgenic mouse models of PD. The project involves defining changes in gene expression, gene regulation and transcriptional networks at the single cell level, by droplet and in situ transcriptomics approaches, and identifying molecular mechanism of disease by functional genomics. Relevant publications: La Manno et al., 2016, Cell; Villaescusa et al., 2016, EMBO; Salasova et al., 2017, Molecular Neurodegeneration; Bryois et al., 2020 Nature Genetics).

Position 2: Computational biology of Parkinson’s disease at the single-cell level (Ref. 2-3006/2022):

Project supported by an ERC Advanced Grant (PreciseCell PD, 2021-2026).

The goal of the project is to analyze and integrate transcriptomics and epigenomics datasets from PD patients. You will have your own project and you will address challenging questions. You will interact and collaborate with lab members working in the dry and the wet lab. You will have the opportunity to supervise students and develop competitive science.

This project will build on previous single cell work of the lab identifying the cellular and molecular diversity of the midbrain (La Manno et al., 2016, Cell), cell-to-cell interactions (Toledo et al., BioRxiv doi: 10.1101/155846) and investigations on the cause and mechanisms of PD (Bryois et al., 2020 Nature Genetics).
