Postdoctoral position in hippocampal cellular neuroscience

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 31 December 2022

City: Budapest

Country: Hungary

Institution: Institute of Experimental Medicine

Department:

Description:

The laboratory of Dr. Judit Makara in the Institute of Experimental Medicine, Budapest, Hungary invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position. The lab studies synaptic integration, dendritic processing, input-output operations and single-cell and population activity patterns in hippocampal neurons, with the goal to understand how cellular and circuit mechanisms allow the hippocampal network to perform various computations during navigation and learning. We employ diverse in vitro and in vivo experimental methodologies including patch clamp electrophysiology, two-photon imaging and optical stimulation techniques, combined with computational analysis in close collaboration with computational neuroscientists at the Institute.

The successful candidate will use in vivo two-photon imaging in head-fixed mice to investigate how the activity of different neuron types and their subcellular compartments in the hippocampal circuitry contribute to learning and memory processes.

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in neuroscience or related field, and preferably experience in fluorescent microscopy techniques, rodent behavioral paradigms and/or programming. We are looking for motivated, creative and collaborative candidates with ability to work independently.

The Institute of Experimental Medicine is widely regarded as a leading neuroscience centre in Europe; it is well equipped with state-of-the-art core facilities and provides a highly stimulating and collaborative interdisciplinary research environment. The Institute is located in the centre of Budapest, one of the most vibrant European cities with rich cultural life.

The position is open immediately, with an initial one-year appointment which can be extended for 3 years covered by current funding. Subsequent extension is also possible. Competitive salary is commensurate with skills and level of experience. Applications should include CV, short statement of motivation and names and email addresses of at least two references. For application or inquiry please contact Judit Makara (makara.judit@koki.hu).
