Research Assistant (PhD student position)

The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (65 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 65 %).

Tasks:
In a multidisciplinary approach, the research group of Prof. Dr. Marco Rust aims at identifying actin regulatory mechanisms in neurons and at elucidating their relevance for mammalian brain development and function. The open position is funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) and will allow the successful candidate to characterize a novel mechanism relevant for neuronal actin dynamics. Moreover, the candidate has access to the interdisciplinary graduate program of the Biochemical-Pharmacological Center (BPC).

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:
We are looking for highly motivated applicant with a Master of Science or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry or life sciences. Expected is a strong background in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or neurobiology. Specific expertise in cutting-edge microscopy and mouse genetics as well as permit for animal experimental work are beneficial. The position further requires the willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team. Good English oral and writing skills are required. Disposition to own scientific qualification (e.g. a doctorate project in the area of molecular and cellular neuroscience) is expected.
