The Brainlab–Cognitive Neuroscience Research Group (University of Barcelona) invites applications for a 3+1-year PhD contract (FPI) starting in spring/fall 2023.

The student will join the recently awarded project Predictive value of the neonatal frequency-following response (FFR) for neurocognitive development at the age of two years: genetic and environmental determinants, financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science, and it is part of an ambitious research program addressing the development of the neural encoding of speech sounds in the infant brain (read more), which is being carried out in collaboration with the Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital.
The successful candidate will join the Brainlab to carry out his/her PhD thesis under the supervision of the PI of the project. Main duties will be to design, implement and carry out EEG recordings and behavioral assessment at birth, 3, 6, 12 and 24 months of age, as well as analyzing the EEG and behavioral data in collaboration with the project team members.
We are seeking a talented and highly motivated graduate in any field related to the Neurosciences (speech and language pathology, psychology, cognitive sciences, biology, biomedicine, engineering).
Requirements: 1) EU citizenship; 2) knowledge of Spanish language; 3) 300 ECTS completed (at least 60 ECTS in a Master degree); 4) the highest academic marks, 5) computer skills (e.g., Matlab, Phyton, Praat). Experience in infant EEG recordings will be a plus.
The successful candidates will join the PhD Program in Biomedicine (area of Neuroscience) and will benefit from the scientific activities of the Brainlab, the María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence Institute of Neurosciences, and the CERCA center Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu (IRSJD).
