PhD positions in neuroscience
Position: Ph.D. Student
Deadline: 31 August 2022
City: Frankfurt am Main
Country: Germany
Institution: Ernst Strüngmann Institut
Department:
Description:
We are offering a fully-funded PhD position in the Schmidt lab at the Ernst Strüngmann Institute of Neuroscience in Frankfurt am Main. The lab is interested in mapping spatial navigation circuits, in particular the interplay of hippocampal neurons and cells in the medial entorhinal cortex. We use modern 3D electron-microscopic methods to untangle networks underlying spatial navigation from the fascinatingly complex brains of mice and shrews.
Your profile:
We are looking for a creative, highly motivated individual with a deep curiosity about the brain. Ideal candidates will have:
- Master level education in natural sciences or equivalent background
- Computational skills and wet lab experience are a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
What we offer:
We are offering the opportunity to work on cutting edge questions and methods in Systems Neuroscience in a highly collaborative and international environment. The starting date is flexible and the position remains open until filled.
If you are enthusiastic about neurons, the synaptic point-to-point connections they make and how they form networks that are able to compute complex tasks in the world of spatial navigation – get in touch! If you are interested in learning state of the art techniques for circuit reconstruction, high-throughput data analysis, and are excited about developing new methods – we’d love to hear from you!
We are committed to increasing the number of women, individuals from historically underrepresented groups and individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore expressly encourage applications from such qualified persons. The compatibility of work and family is also very important to us – we offer affordable childcare (for kids up to 3 years) next door.
Application:
Doctoral candidates should send their application documents including a cover letter with a brief description of their particular motivation and interests, a CV and two references in a PDF file to Dr. Helene Schmidt (helene.schmidt(at)esi-frankfurt.de).
