The Institute of Anatomy is looking for a

PhD student in subproject A07 of CRC1436 “Neural Resources of Cognition”

for our project on mobilizing neural resources by targeting hippocampal circuits with the neuropeptide orexin, a subproject (A07) of the DFG-funded collaborative research center 1436 “Neural Resources of Cognition” (see SFB1436.de for more information)!

 

In this research project, you will investigate circuits targeting the dentate gyrus in cognition using pharmacological manipulations, chemogenetic viral vectors and viral knock down strategies in combination with different behavioral tests and ex vivo analysis of circuit activation and molecular changes of the orexinergic system.

 

If you are curious neuroscience and in exploring cognition, learning and memory about, then join our team! Requirements are a completed university degree (master or diploma) in neuroscience, biology or similar and ideally experience in animal experiments (FELASA B certificate holder or equivalent). Experience with behavioral testing and stereotactic surgeries in mice and/ or expression analysis on the mRNA or protein level (e.g. qPCR, RNAScope, Western Blot, immunohistochemistry) are an advantage.

 

You will be part of our research team functional neuroanatomy (www.albrechtlab.de) and of a vibrant multidisciplinary and international collaborative research center aiming to uncover neural resource mobilization from cells to humans with a wide range of techniques and ample network opportunities within the neuroscience community here in Magdeburg (University, Leibniz-Institute of Neurobiology, German Center for Neurodegenerative Disease). Our integrated graduate program (IRTG) will provide you with a structured program for your PhD, comprising workshops and professionalism courses that stimulate your personal and professional development.

 

The position is available starting from July 1st 2025, the salary is according to German TV-L collective payment agreement (E13 65%).
