Description:

Two open Ph.D. positions in social neuroscience at the University of Haifa, Israel

Two 4-year Ph.D. student positions are open in the Laboratory for Neurobiology of Social Behavior at the University of Haifa, Israel. We are looking for talented and motivated candidates for two distinct projects:

  1. Exploring social emotional states in mice and their neurobiological basis. Specifically, the student will use multiple systems for recording diverse types of signals including multi-site brain electrophysiology, body kinematics, ultrasonic vocalization activity, and body temperature, all conducted simultaneously in behaving mice, including several genetic models of autism.
  2. Exploring social decision-making in rats. This study will involve using viral vectors and fiber photometry for recording the neural activity of specific prefrontal circuitry underlying social decision-making during behavior. These experiments will also involve recording diverse types of signals including multi-site brain electrophysiology, body kinematics, ultrasonic vocalization activity and sniffing, all conducted simultaneously in behaving rats.

Both projects include the analysis of large sets of multidimensional data using MATLAB or Python programs, including AI tools. We are looking for an exceptional candidate who is interested in utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach to investigate a fundamental problem in modern neurobiology. A previous background in electrophysiology, engineering, complex behavioral analyses, or computer programming is highly desirable.
