Description:
Job Description: The Department of Neurosurgery at International Neuroscience Institute Hannover is looking to hire a PhD position (75% position, TV-L E13) starting from 01.05.2023. This project is a part of the BMBF funded research project, „Preclinical study targeting mechanosensitive calcium channels for Cerebral Cavernous Malformations therapy and early diagnosis“.
Cerebral Cavernous Malformations (CCM), a cerebrovascular disease affecting small vessels in 1/200 individuals, are stacks of dilated and haemorrhagic venous capillaries formed by a unique layer of poorly joined endothelial cells. Currently, surgical resection is not always possible and there is no therapeutic alternative. Recent work from our group have identified candidate non-coding RNAs involved in the CCM disease (Kar et al., 2017; Kar et al., 2018; Kar et al., 2019). The PhD student will work with a multidisciplinary team of experts from Germany, France, Belgium and Italy to elucidate the molecular events at the onset of CCM and innovative therapeutic strategies. The major task of the PhD student will be studying the expression of mechanosensitive calcium channels and microRNAs using tissue and blood samples from CCM patients and establish their role as early onset biomarkers in prognosis of the disease.
Your profile:
- Master‘s degree in Neuroscience
- Experience in working with cell culture and molecular biology techniques
- Organized, self-motivated, independent, with problem-solving skills
- Good command of written and spoken German and English language
- Experience and proven track record in the field of molecuar or cellular neuroscience
- Teamworking and being an active part of an international collaborative research environment.
