PhD student position in cortical microcircuitry research
Position: Ph.D. Student
Deadline: 28 February 2023
Employment Start Date: 1 April 2023
Contract Length: 3 years
City: Göttingen
Country: Germany
Institution: Unversity Medical Center Göttingen
Department: Institute for Neuroanatomy
Description:
In the Institute for Neuroanatomy, we will fill one position for a PhD student (E13 65%; 3 years) concerned with the detailed analysis of inhibitory microcircuits in the basic module of the cortex, i.e. the cortical column. In this exciting project, we will use a broad spectrum of electrophysiological, immunohistochemical, microscopic and molecular methods on intersectional mouse lines labeling VIP-expressing interneurons. The technically very demanding approach includes in detail: electrophysiological characterization and biocytin-filling of pre- and postsynaptic neurons from paired patch-clamp recordings in vitro, combined with patch-seq.
The successful candidate must have a master degree in the natural sciences and hands-on experience with neurophysiology (whole-cell patch-clamp recordings). We expect a strong enthusiasm for experimental neuroscience questions and a highly motivated candidate with very good communication skills. We will provide you with all further necessary training and a well-equipped and lively laboratory.
