Ph.D. Student in Paris/France
Position: Ph.D. Student
Deadline: 1 May 2021
Institution: Inserm, Sorbonne University
We seek candidates to pursue a PhD in Jean Christophe Poncer’s lab at the Institut du Fer a Moulin (Inserm and Sorbonne University) in Paris. The position will involve competitive application to the Brain, Cognition and Behavior PhD program of Sorbonne University (http://ed3c.upmc.fr/index.php/en/). Our lab combines electrophysiological approaches and advanced imaging techniques from human postoperative epileptic tissue and animal models to explore the synaptic and cellular mechanisms underlying epileptogenesis. The project aims to study how cholesterol metabolism influences neuronal excitability and how defects in cholesterol hydroxylation, as observed in many neurological disorders including epilepsy, may promote the emergence of pathological activities. The project will involve a combination of in vitro and in vivo electrophysiological recordings together with lipid biochemistry, immunocytochemistry and super-resolution imaging techniques. Since the project will be conducted in a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting, the candidate should have good capacity for teamwork and communication skills. Previous experience in in vitro electrophysiology would be an asset.
