Postdoctoral positions in Circuit Neuroscience

In the framework of a joint research project, two postdoctoral positions are available to work with Dr. Miriam Melis (University of Cagliari) and Dr. Raffaella Tonini (Italian Institute of Technology).

The project investigates the role of synaptic neuromodulators in shaping the interaction between brain circuits for perception and reward, in both health and diseased state. The positions are focused on the analysis of single-cell and large-scale neuronal activity by applying ex-vivo electrophysiology and in-vivo neuronal imaging (microendoscopy and fiber photometry), together with the latest optogenetic and chemogenetic approaches to deconstruct and manipulate neuronal circuits.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in one of the following disciplines: Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Pharmacology or Biophysics. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are expected, alongside with a good track-record of publications in international scientific journals and a team-oriented attitude.

Required qualifications

Position 1
• Strong background in signal processing and synaptic plasticity, appropriate for the analysis of single cell and circuit function
• Expertise in electrophysiology (whole cell patch clamp will be advantageous)
• Experience in animal handling and training
• Excellent skills in data interpretation and presentation

Position 2
• Strong quantitative background and signal processing expertise appropriate for the analysis of neuronal activity
• Experience in animal handling and training
• Programming in Phyton and/or MATLAB
• Previous experience in in-vivo imaging will be a plus

Applications, including detailed curriculum vitae and name and contacts of 2 referees, to be submitted in a PDF format to (position 1) and (position 2).
