Post-doctoral position in Bern/Switzerland
Position: Post-doctoral Position
Deadline: 31 August 2021
Contract Length: two years
City: Bern
Country: Switzerland
Institution: Bern
Department: Physiology
Description:
Postdoctoral Researcher in Biological Deep Learning
A two-year postdoc position is available in Walter Senn and Mihai Petrovici groups at the University of Bern for a researcher with an interest in computational neuroscience, and machine learning. Our research focuses on biologically realistic models of spatio-temporal processing in recurrent cortical networks and their relation to reinforcement learning, Bayesian computing, and neuromorphic implementations.
The project devoted to the modeling of learning in deep cortical networks is part of a collaboration with Profs Fritjof Helmchen and Giacomo Indiveri supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The successful candidate will formalize the dendritic processing of cortical pyramidal neurons, in particular in combining top-down and bottom-up information, and in integrating these neurons in deep networks.
The Department of Physiology at the University of Bern is situated in an attractive region in the heart of Switzerland and offers a stimulating interdisciplinary and international environment. Our research groups collaborate closely with other labs in experimental, computational, and theoretical neuroscience, as well as artificial intelligence, and neuromorphic engineering.
Qualifications
• Strong analytical and numerical skills
• Experience with machine learning / computational modeling
• Ph.D. in computational neuroscience, applied mathematics and/or physics or related fields
Applications
The position is starting as soon as possible, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
If you are interested, please send one .pdf document including your CV, a brief statement of research interests, the contact details of two referees, and a list of publications to walter.senn@unibe.ch and mihai.petrovici@unibe.ch (virginie.sabado@unibe.ch in cc). Informal inquiries are welcome.
