Position: Ph.D. Student
Deadline: 31 August 2021
Employment Start Date: 1 September 2021
City: Frankfurt am Main
Institution: Max Planck Institute for Brain Research
Department: Memory and Navigation Circuits Group
Ph.D. student and postdoctoral positions are available in the Memory and Navigation Circuits group at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
The position offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-arts in vivo multichannel electrophysiology with tetrodes/neuropixels as well as optogenetic/pharmacogenetic neuronal manipulations in behaving rodents to investigate the neural codes underlying spatial navigation and memory. You can see the following paper as an example of our research:
Entorhinal-retrosplenial circuits for allocentric-egocentric transformation of boundary coding. van Wijngaarden JB, Babl SS, Ito HT. eLife 2020.
An ideal candidate should have a strong background in neuroscience, as well as analytical and programming skills (Matlab or Python). We are also interested in candidates with theoretical background who wish to work with complex data sets, such as the activity of hundreds of neurons recorded from multiple brain structures during behavioral tasks.
The Max Planck Institute for Brain Research is a leading international institution for basic research in neuroscience. In our new building at the Riedberg Campus, researchers from many different backgrounds (e.g. biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, computer science, and mathematics) investigate the structure and function of neural networks in an interactive and collaborative atmosphere.
