The Hartung lab at the Neuroscience Center, University of Helsinki is looking for
The main objectives are to investigate the functional development of serotonergic neurons after birth stress and to test the effect of altered serotonin levels during development on networks underlying emotional behavior in rodent models.
The work duties of the selected candidate include:
• Performing and analysing In vivo electrophysiological recordings (single units, local-field potentials) in rodent models;
• Histology including Immunocytochemistry;
• Anatomical tract tracing;
• Publication of results in international scientific journals;
• Supervision of students or laboratory interns;
The candidate is offered access to state-of-the-art methodologies, appropriate supervision and help in career advancement.
Qualification requirements are
• Applicants must hold a PhD in neuroscience or related fields;
• Excellent command of English;
• Thorough training in electrophysiology in rodents;
• Rodent surgery skills;
• Experience in time-series analysis (spike data, local-field potentials);
• Good programming skills (Matlab, Python);
• Prior international publications in renowned journals;
• Beneficial: Experience with optogenetics or chemogenetics, research background in early-life stress and/or the serotonergic system;
Salary will be based on the University salary system, starting at approx €3200 /month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
