Position: Ph.D. Student
Deadline: 28 May 2021
Employment Start Date: 1 June 2021
Contract Length: 3.5 years
Institution: Otto von Geuricke University
A PhD position is available as part of a collaborative project (SFB 1436, Neural Resources of Cognition) for a 3.5 year fixed term appointment with a salary of TV-L E13 (65%) starting from June 1st, 2021 or as soon as possible. The candidate will gain valuable experience with in vivo two-photon calcium imaging in behaving mice and correlated high-field animal MRI to investigate a key component that is instrumental in cognitive performance and memory formation, the utilisation of temporal information in multisensory contexts. Your role will be to examine how temporal attention influences the generation, maintenance, and updating of multisensory stimulus representations in the brain. In collaboration with human MRI investigations the project will strive to directly connect principles of animal and human system physiology. You will work with Dr. Janelle Pakan at the Otto von Guericke University (OvGU) in close collaboration with Dr. Eike Budinger at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN, Small Animal MRI Lab) and Prof. Toemme Noesselt at the OvGU, Institute of Psychology. We offer excellent opportunities for cognitive and systems neuroscientific research, including a vibrant and growing in vivo two-photon imaging community, several MRI facilities, and a multidisciplinary scientific environment.
• MSc in Neuroscience, Biology, Biomedical engineering, Life sciences, or related field
• Experience with microscopy and/or MRI techniques and interest in neuroimaging
• Experience with Matlab and/or python is advantageous
• Completed FELASA course (or equivalent) will be advantageous, but willingness to work directly with animals is a minimum requirement.
Please send a motivation statement, CV, copies of relevant certificates, and contact information for two references to Janelle Pakan (firstname.lastname@example.org).
