A PhD position in neuroscience is available in the department of Cellular Neurobiology at the TU Braunschweig and is founded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
Our laboratory studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating plasticity and learning processes under physiological conditions and in different neurological diseases. To this aim we use various approaches, including electrophysiology, cell culture, confocal and 2-photon imaging, and behavioral methods. More info about our lab and our research can be found here:
For this project, we are seeking a highly motivated student interested in investigating the effects of different approaches mimicking or promoting the signaling of the Neurotrophin ‘Brain derived Neurotrophic factor’ (BDNF) and its receptor TrkB. The consequences of stimulating BDNF-TrkB signaling will be analyzed in the healthy brain as well as for its ability to prevent or rescue the typical brain pathology and symptoms observed in a mouse model for Alzheimer diseases and in one for Rett syndrome, a complex neurodevelopmental disorder. State-of-the-art techniques in cellular and molecular biology as well as imaging and electrophysiology methods and behavioral testing will be used in this project.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, team-player, knowledge-driven student with a Master’s degree in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry or related fields with strong verbal and written communication skills (English is required) and eager to collaborate with other members of the team, to participate in different projects and to learn new techniques. A background in Neurobiology is of advantage.
